Can my family immigrate with me if I am accepted under an Immigrant Investor Program?
Yes. In Canada, the Immigrant Investor Application covers the Principal Applicant (the Investor) but also his/her dependents:
- Spouse;
- Children under 22 years of age;
- Children of 22 years of age or older who are full-time students.
Each of these persons, if the Application of the Principal Applicant (the Investor) is successful, will receive a Permanent Resident Visa from Canada.
If I am accepted by the Canadian immigration authorities, which legal status do I obtain?
You will become a Canadian Permanent Resident and you will receive the appropriate visa to confirm this legal status.
What are the main rights and obligations of a Canadian Permanent Resident?
Rights:
A Canadian Permanent Resident has the right:
- To most social benefits that Canadian citizens enjoy, including health care coverage;
- To live, work and study in Canada;
- To apply for Canadian citizenship;
- To protection under Canadian law;
- Etc.
Obligations:
A Canadian Permanent Resident must:
- Pay taxes (if applicable);
- Respect Canadian laws;
- Physically reside in Canada for at least 730 days within a five-year period. There are some exceptions to this obligation.
